I don't know why I read this, I knew it was going to be rubbish and it was. I picked it up at the library because I had locked myself out after dropping Kallias at playgroup. It was predictable, quite boring and very unsatisfying. I think we need a list of 'light reads' that are not shit. I love heavy, thematic books like Cloud Atlas and, recently, The Luminaries, but sometimes (ok often at the moment!) I need something I can pick up, put down, read to sleep, read half asleep, you see what I mean. I will start, and nominate Where'd You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple, a fun, but still witty, epistolary novel about a mother-daughter relationship. And a trip to Antarctica.
Its always good to try things that might not be your usual choice, they might surprise you! Even if this one didn't! And having a list of lighter reads is a good idea, can be easy to think you should always be reading something deep meaningful and wrist breaking! my suggestion of an easy going but enjoyable and heat warning book is a street cat called bob! Simple, not complicated just lovely!
